This publication contains life tables by age, ethnic group and sex at Malaysia and state. The life tables are generated based on the mortality statistics for the three-year period and mid-year population estimates.
LIFE EXPECTANCY AT BIRTH
A newborn girl is expected to live longer up to 77.3 years while a newborn boy is expected to live until 72.2 years in 2019. For the period of 2013-2019, life expectancy at birth for females increased by 0.4 years. On the contrary, males has decreased by 0.1 years for the same period.
The gender gap in life expectancy at birth increased between 4.6 to 5.1 years over the period of 2013-2019.
LIFE EXPECTANCY AT THE AGE OF 15 YEARS
Females at Age 15 Years is Expected to Live 4.9 Years Longer
Males and females who reach the age of 15 years in 2019 are expected to live another 58.1 and 63.0 years respectively. These indicate that male is expected to live until the age of 73.1 years and female up to the age of 78.0 years.
LIFE EXPECTANCY AT THE AGE OF 65 YEARS
Life Expectancy at the Age of 65 Years Increased
Males who reach the age of 65 years in 2019 is expected to live a further 14.8 years and 17.1 years for females. Thus, males aged 65 years is expected to live until the age of 79.8 years and 82.1 years for females.

Chinese Lives the Longest
For the period of 2013-2019, Chinese continues to register the highest life expectancy at birth followed by Bumiputera and Indians.
LIFE EXPECTANCY AT BIRTH BY SEX AND STATE
Sarawak's Males and W.P. Kuala Lumpur's Females Recorded the Highest Life Expectancy
The highest life expectancy at birth for males in 2019 was recorded by Sarawak (74.6 years) whereas for females was recorded by W.P. Kuala Lumpur (79.2 years). Meanwhile, the lowest life expectancy at birth for males was recorded by Terengganu (69.3 years) and females by Perlis (74.7 years).
