Consumer Price Index in 2017 rose by 3.7%

Producer Price Index Malaysia March 2017

Year-on-year comparison showed that the Producer Price Index (PPI) for local production increased 9.0 per cent in March 2017. The highest increase was recorded by Mining index (+33.3%) followed by Agriculture, forestry & fishing (+13.8%), Manufacturing (+6.7%), Electricity & gas supply (+3.3%) and Water supply (+1.0%).

The PPI for local production declined by 1.5 per cent in March 2017 compared to February 2017. This was due to decreases in three sectors namely, Agriculture, forestry & fishing (-8.5%), Mining (-2.6%) and  Manufacturing (-0.7%). Meanwhile, Electricity & gas supply inclined (+0.3%),  followed by Water supply (+1.0%). [Table I]

 

 

The PPI for local production by stage of processing (SOP) declined 1.5 per cent in March 2017 compared to the previous month. This decline was due to decreases in the indices for Crude materials for further processing (-6.1%) and Intermediate materials, supplies and  components (-0.7%). Meanwhile, Finished goods inclined 0.3 per cent.

As compared with the same month a year ago, the PPI for local production by SOP for March 2017 increased 9.0 per cent. This was due to increases in index for Crude materials for further processing (+21.2%), Intermediate materials, supplies and components (+8.6%) and Finished goods (+1.5%). [Table II]
