Consumer Price Index in 2015 rose by 2.1%

Producer Price Index Malaysia July 2017

Producer Price Index (2010=100) by Sector (MSIC 2008)

The Producer Price Index (PPI) for local production rose 7.1 per cent on a year on year basis in July 2017. Among the sectors which showed significant increases during this period were Mining (+24.0%), Agriculture, forestry & fishing (+7.8%), Manufacturing (+5.9%), Electricity & gas supply (+1.7%) and Water supply (+0.4%).

On a monthly basis, PPI for local production declined by 0.3 per cent in July 2017 compared to June 2017. This was due to decreases in two sectors namely, Manufacturing (-0.7%) and Agriculture, forestry & fishing (-0.1%). However, sectors for Mining, Electricity & gas supply and Water supply increased by (+3.0%), (+0.6%) and (+0.2%) respectively. [Table I]

Producer Price Index by Stage of Processing

The PPI for local production by stage of processing (SOP) decreased by 0.3 per cent in July 2017 compared to the previous month. This decline was due to decreases in the indices for intermediate materials, supplies and components (-0.8%) and Finished goods (-0.3%). However, index for Crude materials for further processing increased by (+1.2%).

As compared with the same month a year ago, the PPI for local production by SOP for July 2017 increased 7.1 per cent. The increases were propelled by the index for Crude materials for further processing (+11.5%), Intermediate materials, supplies and components (+8.6%), and Finished goods (+1.3%). [Table II]
