Introduction

SYSTEM OF ENVIRONMENTAL-ECONOMIC ACCOUNTING (SEEA)

Malaysia has been selected by United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD) to conduct a development account project “Supporting Member States in Developing and Strengthening Environment Statistics and Integrated Environmental-Economic Accounting for Improved Monitoring of Sustainable Development” for the period of 2016 - 2017. Two outputs from this project are Roadmap SEEA Malaysia and SEEA Water Account.

The Roadmap SEEA for Malaysia 2016-2020 is a dynamic document that outlined policies/programmes/initiatives related to environment in Malaysia, governance structure, data requirements, proposed accounts and implementation strategies as well as critical success factors for SEEA implementation. This Roadmap identified four potential SEEA accounts that could be developed in Malaysia namely energy, water, air emission (for energy use) and land accounts (agriculture).
