When is the Economic Census Conducted?
Commencing April until November 2016, the Department of Statistics Malaysia will distribute the questionnaires to 700,000 registered entrepreneurs, companies or businesses that operate in the agricultural, mining & quarrying, manufacturing, construction, and services sector (excluding distributive trade).
Who will be covered in this Economic Census?
The respondents of this census are registered entrepreneurs, companies and businesses in agriculture, mining & quarrying, manufacturing, construction or services (except distributive trade) sectors.
Why you should respond to this census?
The data obtained from the census will be used for:
1. Planning business strategy
Economic Census provides detailed economic statistics for businesses to make business decisions and planning as well as to gauge their business performance.
2. Providing input to the national economic development
Economic Census provides comprehensive statistics to formulate national development policy and to identify new sources of growth to the economy. The statistics have been used for the assessment of the Tenth Malaysia Plan as well as the formulation of Eleventh Malaysia Plan, Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Masterplan 2012-2020 and the Services Sector Blueprint.
3. Setting new benchmark for economic statistics
Economic census data will be used in updating existing economic indicators such as rebasing of indices i.e. Gross Domestic Product (GDP), Index of Industrial Production (IIP), Index of Services (IoS), Producer Price Index (PPI); compilation of Supply & Use Tables (SUT), Input-Output Table (I-O), Tourism Satellite Account (TSA), Information & Communication Technology Satellite Account (ICTSA), System of Environmental-Economic Accounting (SEEA); and the development of Small Medium Enterprise's profile.
How is the Economic Census Conducted?
The Economic Census questionnaires will be sent to all registered entrepreneurs, companies and businesses via mail. The respondents are required to return the completed questionnaire within a month. If the questionnaire is not received or incomplete, the officer from the Department of Statistics Malaysia will visit the respondents.
What is Economic Census 2016 Agrofood Entrepreneur?
The Economic Census 2016 Agrofood Entrepreneur is the first census conducted by the Department of Statistics Malaysia to collect comprehensive information on agrofood entrepreneurs in Malaysia.
Agrofood entrepreneur is an individual or group of individuals engage in the upstream agrofood agricultural activities in crops, livestock and aquaculture sub-sectors. They consist of farmers, breeders, operators or project participants who are registered with the respective agriculture agencies and the output of the activities are for commercial purposes.
Commencing February until May 2016, the Department of Statistics Malaysia distributes questionnaires through mail to the entrepreneurs. The completed questionnaires should be returned within 14 days of the notice. If the questionnaire is not received or incomplete, the officer from the Department of Statistics Malaysia will visit the respondents.
