The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) has declared World Statistics Day to be celebrated on 20th October 2010. Subsequently, the second World Statistics Day was celebrated on 20th October 2015 and since then has been celebrated every five years on the 20th October. Ever since its first celebration in 2010, the World Statistics Day in Malaysia has been celebrated with vast of exciting and engaging activities that involve various walks of life.
It was the year 2017 that marked the beginning of a proud moment for Malaysia where our very own National Statistics Day was declared. It has since then been celebrated annually on every 20th October starting 20 October 2017, 20 October 2018, 20 October 2019, 20 October 2020 and 20 October 2021.
The 51st United Nations Statistics Commission (UNSC) has finalized the logo and chosen the slogan "Connecting The World With Data We Can Trust" as the theme for the five-year period 2020 - 2025.
In line with the establishment of Institut Latihan Statistik Malaysia (ILSM) which has reached the age of a decade, National Statistics Day (HSN) 2022 will be celebrated together with the Sambutan Sedekad ILSM event on 18 to 23 October 2022 at ILSM, Sungkai, Perak with various activities to be carried out.
This cooperation will involve of DOSM staff, especially DOSM Northern Zone, Agencies and Pihak Berkuasa Tempatan (PBT). His Majesty Paduka Seri Sultan of Perak Darul Ridzuan, Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah Ibni Almarhum Sultan Azlan Muhibuddin Shah Al-Maghfur-Lah is scheduled to desecrate the duke at the Majlis Forum Perdana Hal Ehwal Islam on 20 October 2022.
The organization of the HSN and Sedekad ILSM will have a significant impact on the initiative of the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) to ensure that the culture of statistics can be beneficial for aspirations to the Malaysian Family in achieving the vision of shared prosperity.
In line with the #ReopeningSafely Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) Guidelines dated 1 April 2022 where Malaysia has moved into the Endemic Phase, DOSM will ensure that the event is held in accordance with strict Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) as gazette by the National Security Council (NSC) and Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH).
