INTRODUCTION

This publication presents statistics on the real estate services which obtained from the Annual Economic Survey 2018 for reference year 2017. Real estate services comprises real estate activities with own or leased property and real estate activities on a fee or contract basis. The principal statistics such as the value of gross output, value of intermediate input, value added, number of persons engaged,  salaries & wages paid as well as value of fixed assets owned are also presented in this publication.

PERFORMANCE OF REAL ESTATE SERVICES

The real estate services recorded gross output value of RM32.8 billion in 2017 as compared to RM28.1 billion in 2015 with the annual growth rate value of 8.1 per cent per annum. In line with the growth in gross output, the value of intermediate input also increased by RM1.6 billion to record RM12.1 billion with the average annual growth rate of 7.2 per cent, thus resulting a value added of RM20.7 billion for the year 2017.

VALUE OF GROSS OUTPUT

In the period of 2015 to 2017, the gross output value of real estate services increased 8.1 per cent per annum. The increment was driven by real estate activities with own or leased property increased by 8.1 per cent per annum (RM30.2 billion). While real estate activities on a fee or contract basis increased 7.9 per cent per annum making output value RM2.5 billion.

VALUE ADDED

The total value added recorded in real estate services for 2017 is RM20.7 billion with annual growth rate of 8.6 per cent per annum within the period of two years. Real estate activities with own or leased property recorded the highest value added in 2017 which amounted to RM19.2 billion (2015: RM16.3 billion) and real estate activities on a fee or contract basis was RM1.5 billion (2015: RM1.3 billion).

NUMBER OF PERSONS ENGAGED

In 2017, number of persons engaged for real estate services registered was 88,191 persons. Real estate activities with own or leased property recorded the highest number of persons  engaged  were 74,885 persons or 84.9 per cent (2015: 83.9%). While  real estate activities  on a fee  or contract  basis  was 13,306 persons or 15.1 per cent (2015: 16.1%).
